UC Davis github:

  1. 1.Sign up with your @ucdavis.edu email address via the link at Get Started on the page:


        https://itcatalog.ucdavis.edu/service/github


  1. 2.Then, if you do not have GitHub account, make one at github.com, again using your @ucdavis.edu email address.

  2. 3.With an account, when you login you should be able confirm that you are a member of the ucdavis “organization”.

  3. 4.You now have services and resources at the github “Pro” and “Enterprise” levels.

Access to CSC computing

o All access is via ssh login. (CSC does not use user/password logins.)

o To generate a ssh key pair please see this link.


Cluster computing


o Clusters are accessed via ssh’ing to demon.csc.ucdavis.edu.


o Where to request cluster access: Account Request Form.


o A graphical interface to monitor cluster load is here.


o There are three SLURM job queues or partitions: (use “sinfo”)

    o parallel (on demon.csc)

    o bigmem (Two nodes on demon.csc: Each with n CPUs and 1/2 TB RAM each.)

    o serial (on hive.csc)


o Hardware consists of two interconnected clusters, hive.csc and demon.csc, that share network attached storage (NAS):


o demon.csc: Commissioned (March 2015)

    448 CPUs, 896 threads, 1792 GB

    Interconnect: Gigabit ethernet and Infiniband (low latency)

    Head & compute nodes (28):

        CPUs: 2 x Xeon E5-2630v3 2.4 GHz, 20 MB cache, 8-core, dual thread

        Memory: 64 GB

        Disk: 1 TB


o Two bigmem nodes on demon.csc: Commissioned (March 2015)

    64 CPUs: 4 x Opteron 6376 2.3 GHz, 16-core, 16 MB L3 Cache

    Memory: 512 GB

    Disk: 1 TB

    Interconnects: Gigabit ethernet and Infiniband (low latency)


o NAS:

    CPUs: 2 x Xeon 2.1 GHz, 6-core

    RAM: 64 GB

    Disk: 144 TB


o hive.csc: Commissioned (~2012)

   288 CPUs, 576 threads, 1152 GB

    Interconnect: Gigabit ethernet

    Head & compute nodes (12):

        CPUs: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5645  @ 2.40GHz, 24 cores, dual thread

        Memory: 96 GB

        Disk: 1 TB
