Wheels and Brick

Our robots have four 49.6 x 28 Lego wheels. After mounting the wheels on the driving base with the custom made wheel bearings, and attaching the bumpers, the Mindstorms 2.0 brick can be placed onto the robot. It sits centered on the base and is connected to two outer support pieces. See directions for building the car here.

We also built a special front wheel to give our robots added balance. Our front is made of:

1 steel rod approximately 2.18 inches,
1 nylon wheel (cut from a nylon bar with a lathe, no more than 0.66 inches across),
2 (2x2) blocks,
2 (2x2) tiles, and
2 axial mounts.

Once the front wheel is finished, put an axial mount on either side of the steel rod.
Then attach the mounts to the bottom of the front bumper.
